Cross Country Wrap Up 2017

15 Years Boys Runner's Up Age Champion: Connor Duffy (Year 10)

Courtesy of Cyclone Debbie causing havoc in the final days of Term 1, we welcomed students back to Term 2 with the Annual Inter-House Cross Country Carnival. It was a sensational afternoon and students definitely got into the spirit of the event. Participation was once again fantastic, with many students giving it their all. When the dust settled though, we crowned a new Cross Country Champion. Well done to BENFER HOUSE on their outstanding efforts to take out the day, thoroughly deserving winners. Special thanks must go to all students and staff who contributed to the organisation of the carnival, which would not have been a success if not for their hard work. Congratulations also to our 2017 Cross Country Age Champions; Ryan Thomsen (12 Years Boys), Alexandra Kirly (12 Years Girls), Jayden Manihera (13 Years Boys), Qualin Te Kapa (13 Years Girls), Brandon Brewster (14 Years Boys), Sarah Parkes (14 Years Girls), Connor Duffy (15 Years Boys), Des’Ree Barnes (15 Years Girls), Scott Marriott (16 Years Boys), Caitlyn Rawding (16 Years Girls), Tom Davis (Open Boys) and Elise Chapman (Open Girls).

On Thursday 20 April, a committed squad of VPSHS students travelled to Capalaba Regional Park to compete in the District Cross Country Carnival. The beginning of the day was positively marked by strong words from Year 12 squad leaders, who encouraged all to give their best. As the day progressed, it was evident that all of our competitors responded to the call to do their best, as many finished their race with nothing left in ‘the tank’. The encouragement and support that our students showed to one another, particularly on the straight to the finish line, was outstanding and commendable throughout the day. A special highlight to come out of the day relates to Year 10 student Connor Duffy, who finished Runner’s Up 15 Years Boys Age Champion! This was a monumental effort and great reward for Connor’s hard work and commitment. Connor was one of three VPSHS students to be selected in the Bayside District Team. The other two students were Elise Chapman (Year 12) and Luke Harvey (Year 12). Well done to all competitors and we wish our District Representatives the best of luck at the upcoming Regional Cross Country Carnival.
