REWARDING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN 2015

Welcome to the 2015 school year to all our students and parents. We hope to have another fantastic year where all students achieve success in their studies. There is much to celebrate in the results from the end of 2014. Not only did we have improved NAPLAN results in year 9, exceptional QCE attainment in year 12 and wonderful OP results including an OP 1 and several OP 2’s, but we had MANY individual students from all grades achieving outstanding academic and effort results on their Semester II report cards.
We are using a new system to determine how we recognise student achievement in 2015. After each semester’s reporting period, we will use a Grade Point Average (GPA), which is an internationally recognised calculation, to find the average result of all grades achieved across students’ subjects. A five point scale is used to attribute 5 points to an A result, 4 points to a B result, 3 points to a C result, 2 points to a D result and 1 point for an E result.
Students may then be eligible for either Gold or Silver Academic and/or Effort certificates to reward their hard work and excellent results. These certificates will be presented on school or year level parades. They will also be recorded on the students’ electronic record for future reference. These certificates will contribute to student eligibility for prestigious awards at our Annual Academic Awards evening. See the student planner for further details or contact the Head of Data and Performance, Kate Flanagan, via Email: kflan36@eq.edu.au.
In the coming weeks, we will be issuing more than 250 certificates for the results achieved in Semester II 2014. Congratulations to all those students and their families. A special mention must be made to the seven students who received a perfect report card filled with straight A’s. Lachlan Freese, Caitlin Holdsworth, Natasha Lumley, and Paige Mc Cartney all completed year 10 in 2014 with these exceptional results. Samantha Gillespie, Brooklyn Rota and Cassandra Wingard all completed Year 9 in an exceptional way too. Best wishes to these students for continued success in 2015. See full list of student recipients.
