In my role as Councillor for Division 6, I recently convened and chaired the first School SafeSt meeting for Victoria Point State High School.
This committee, like the one already supporting Mount Cotton State School, brings together the school, the community in the form of the P&C, state MP Matt McEachan and Councillors, local and state roads engineers, Education Queensland school safety officers, police and representatives from Translink to identify and find solutions to satisfy issues around the school and in the transit of students to and from school.
Some issues discussed at the first meeting included bus timetabling and overcrowding, road design around the school and safety signage.
The goal of this committee is to support the school in ensuring the safety of students and members of the community through better planning and resourcing of infrastructure and services.
