Term 2 has been a busy time for dance at our school. Whilst all classes are working hard towards assessment we have also had approximately 94 students compete and represent our school at the recent Brisbane Eisteddfod. All of our students are to be congratulated for their enthusiasm, commitment and behaviour over both eisteddfod days, 20th and 26th May. They were a pleasure to take to this event and we hope that they not only had a wonderful experience performing and competing against other high schools but also gained experience watching, learning and embracing dance as an art form to express themselves.
On Wednesday 1st June, 39 year 7 and 8 Dance Program of Excellence students travelled on a bus to QPAC to view Queensland ballet’s production of “Strictly Gershwin”. Our junior secondary students are to be congratulated on their impeccable behaviour throughout the duration of the excursion. The show was absolutely stunning with beautiful costumes, exquisite dancing in styles such as ballet, tap and latin and the music performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra was superb.
Our next big competition will be the Quota of Beenleigh Dance Eisteddfod that will take place between 1st-3rd August. The date will be published as soon as the program is released early in term 3. Our other big dance event for the year will be “A Night of Dance”, Friday 5th August. All classroom dance students from years 7-12 will be invited to perform their dances learnt in class over the first half of the year. There will be two shows, an afternoon and an evening. Tickets will be sold online closer to the date, please wait until your student receives a letter informing when tickets will be released.
As the exam and assessment period gets closer, all of our dance students will have some form of practical dance assessment due in the near future. All students should be rehearsing their dances or working hard on their own choreography preparing for assessment day.
