Year 10 student, Paige McCartney has been selected into the Queensland Academy of Sport for Diving; a squad she has been in since March this year. Paige recently demonstrated why she deserves selection in such an elite program, when she competed at the Queensland State titles held at the Sleeman Sport Complex, Chandler where she placed first in the platform event and third for both the 1m and 3m diving events. Paige will also be competing in the Victorian State titles as well as the Junior National titles in Sydney at the end of June. The competitors she will face at such events include Australian and possibly some international divers who have previously competed at the Olympics or have been selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. This gives an indication of the level at which Paige is performing and no doubt the aspirations she has to make Olympic dreams reality. Our school is very fortunate to have a young athlete of this calibre as a member of the community, particularly one who is above all a wonderful young person. Good luck Paige, you have all of Victoria Point State High School cheering for you!
