On Wednesday April 23, 25 Year 10 students attended the University of Queensland Careers Event, ‘Careers that Shape the World’.
The purpose of the day was to introduce students to university life, campus, courses and networking.
Each student was able to choose 3 different areas of interest and attend a lecture / workshop / information session that related to each area. They could choose from a wide range of courses. Some of the favourite presentations were: ‘Why are we not all Serial Killers’ which explored the reason for our internal behaviour control and related to the area of Psychology. Another was ‘Study Law and change the world’ where students were made aware of the breadth and depth of studying law and the many applications of the law; ‘Human Evolution Lab’ – a hands on presentation that allowed students to handle a range of different sized skulls and how they had evolved over time.
At the end of the day 100% of the students rated the experience at 80-100% in terms of value to them. They used the following words to describe their experiences: ‘Awesome’; ‘Different and interesting’; ‘Welcoming’, ‘Informative’, ‘A great taste of uni life’, ‘Amazing’, ‘Educational’, ‘Insightful’, ‘Really worthwhile attending’ ‘Like a great adventure’.
A huge thankyou to the University of Queensland for a wonderful and free University experience.
