The big splash! Swimming Carnival Reports 2017

Sands Senior House Leaders ready to cheer their team to victory!

On Wednesday 1 February, the VPSHS army (made up of highly enthusiastic students and staff) invaded the Cleveland Swimming Pool for a day of fun in the sun. The weather indeed did not disappoint, ensuring an ideal combination of sunshine and blue sky. Our aspiring 2017 Senior House Leaders had much to live up to, given the impressive leadership and team work of their predecessors in the past five years. Such was their performance as carnival leaders that they have now set the bar at an extremely high point for future leaders to follow! An unbelievable commitment to ‘rallying’ their respective houses through the leading of passionate chants, accompanied by amazing enthusiasm and relay team organisation played a major part in creating the wonderful atmosphere that was present on the day. Congratulations must go to the many students who attended, as their participation was excellent and in the right spirit.

As far as competition goes, this was one of the tightest contests for many years. Only a handful of points separated the top three houses and in the end it came down to relay results. We congratulate HEINEMANN HOUSE (566pts) who have extended their dominance to the pool after taking out last year’s Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals! An amazing effort with congratulations also needing to go to 2nd place Sands House (551pts) and 3rd place Master House (540pts) who were only narrowly edged out. Previous Swimming Carnival juggernauts Benfer House finished in 4th place on 443 points.

We also celebrate our standout swimmers, who have achieved the wonderful milestone of Swimming Age Champion. Our male and female 2017 VPSHS Swimming Age Champions are:

*12 Years: Ruby Allen and Ryan Thomsen

*13 Years: Tahlia Bryett and Thomas Parkes

*14 Years: Sarah Parkes and Cody Torkington

*15 Years: Ashleigh Whelan and Zach Mottershead

*16 Years: Candace Torkington and Ethan Green

*Opens: Courtney McCartney and Luke Harvey

Special thanks must go to all staff and students who worked throughout the day, as they are the ones who are responsible for another fun and successful carnival.

On Thursday 16 February a team of committed swimmers travelled to the Bayside District Carnival to represent VPSHS amongst a host of other secondary and primary schools and colleges. Congratulations to all students who represented our school, as your effort and commitment to the team could not be faulted. All we could ask of you was your best and you certainly gave it! In the end Victoria Point SHS finished in 9th place for the 12-19years combined scores out of 31 secondary and primary schools and colleges. This was a great effort considering the work load placed on some students. Congratulations to Candace Torkington, Luke Harvey and Matthew Devlin who have qualified to represent the Bayside in the upcoming Regional Carnival. We wish them the best of luck!
