Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation.

As announced by the Premier on Sunday 9 January, the start of the 2022 school year in Queensland will move from 24 January to 7 February, to avoid opening schools during the predicted peak of the Omicron wave, and allow more time for children to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations.

From Monday 31 January, Year 11 and 12 students will undertake remote learning for one week until the revised formal start of the school year on 7 February. Detailed information for parents of students enrolled in Years 11 and 12 is outlined in update #2.

Our school will remain open for children of essential workers and vulnerable children during this period. The school will continue to maintain COVID-19 safe work practices including on-going COVID cleaning and sanitising routines for staff and students. Essential workers are only those who absolutely must continue to attend their workplace during this time. The Department of Education has asked all parents to consider the Chief Health Officer's advice and stay home with your children if you can.

If you need to send your child to school you must ensure your child is well and not displaying any signs of illness. Students will not be prevented from attending school if they are unvaccinated. However, we encourage everybody to get their vaccinations or boosters as soon as they can. Students who attend school and display any signs of illness will be sent home under the direction of their parent/caregiver.

All high school students, including those who are under 12 years of age, need to wear a mask unless they are seated indoors, outdoors or are able to maintain a 1.5 metre distance from others. Parents must provide masks. The school recommends each child carry a spare mask as only limited supplies are available for school distribution. Parents requesting a medical exemption for their child, must email a request to admin@vpshs.eq.edu.au whereby an exemption pass will be issued.

School staff will supervise any students who attend school. We will not be providing instruction during this time. It is recommended that children bring self-directed activities, such as a novel, to enhance classroom activities that will be made available to students.

However, if you would like to support your child's learning at home during this time the department has a dedicated learning at home website. It can be found at https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/learning-at-home and provides parent versions of curriculum resources as well as many other learning resources.

Keep up to date with our school Facebook page, for the Words of Wellbeing. If you are concerned about the overall wellbeing for your child you can either email wellbeing@vpshs.eq.edu.au or contact the school on 3820 5838 to request a telephone appointment. For students attending school, the Student Support Services HUB will be open before school, first and second break, after school and by appointment.

Victoria Point State High School Administration Office will re-open in the new year from Monday 17 January - Friday 21 January 2022 from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Please be aware the office will be closed on Wednesday 19 January due to staff professional development. Usual office hours will resume from Monday 24 January 2022.

The school's canteen will be closed until Monday 7 February 2022.

Victoria Point State High School Uniform Shop will be open for back to school fittings by appointment from Monday 17 January to Thursday 20 January 2022, 8:00am to 2.30pm. Please visit the school website for further information and to make an appointment https://vpshs.eq.edu.au/facilities/uniform-shop . Usual Uniform Shop hours will resume from Monday 24 January 2022, Monday – Thursday: 8.00am to 11.00am.

The VPSHS Swimming Carnival has been postponed.

I will continue to provide communication which will update Day 1 information and include all students returning to school 7 February 2022. This will avoid further delays and eliminate a staggered start along with the continuation of the Year 7 Big Day In. Please do not hesitate to contact the school for any further information or assistance by emailing admin@vpshs.eq.edu.au
