VPSHS Celebrates Kobe Hetherington
Tanika Sloane a Year 12 Indigenous student had a wonderful opportunity to showcase her artistic talent and celebrate Kobe Hetherington's achievements through his football journey, by painting his footy boots.
Tanika's artwork on the footy boots captures the essence of Kobe's journey and personality and his love for adventure. The boots will not only be a piece of art but also a representation of Kobe's connection to his culture and community. He will have the opportunity to wear these boots in the Indigenous round in May. It's great to see the Indigenous NRL Round being celebrated in such a unique way.
It's important to celebrate and honour the Indigenous players and their contribution to the sport. Through events, like the Indigenous round, we can raise awareness of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture and promote reconciliation in Australia.
On the back of the shoe, represents Kobe in the middle, and people who are constantly supporting him in his life. The number 9 reinforces connection to his past and association with the number.
Earthy colours on the shoe strengthen connection to the land and country. The tip of the shoe, 'focal point' a meeting place, lines stemming off represent connection to family, mates and footy. On one side of shoe his name and the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. The opposite side represents Kobe's journey past, present & future. The colours chosen mean continuity and resilience, they are calm and light, with blue representing the waves and ocean. The artwork on the tongue shows his love for animals, nature and exploration.
