Kirra Willich (Chaplain) works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and is available to support students and their families.

A chaplain's role supports the emotional, social and spiritual health of students and provides pastoral care to the school community. The Chaplain also works to foster links between the school and the local community. The chaplaincy role involves walking with students through challenges, providing a listening ear and caring presence for young people facing challenges.

Working alongside the wellbeing team, the school chaplain is able to provide practical support to students and families, facilitate programs and provide a positive environment for students to explore their unique personalities.

Chaplaincy support can involve:

  • Sitting with students who are feeling isolated at lunchtime

  • Organising lunch time activities, art

  • Coordinating positive groups that encourage self-esteem and resilience

  • Activities that foster friendship and community

  • Having deep and meaningful conversations

  • Empowering student involvement

  • Praying with families facing challenges

  • Linking students with positive holiday camps or other community programs

  • Connecting students to other support services at the school

  • Running Breakfast Club and a fortnightly Pancake Breakfast

  • Providing free events and activities during Chappy Week, Mental Health Week and other times through the school year

  • Attending student events such as athletic carnivals, swimming carnival, camps and excursions to offer support for staff and students

Our chaplain also coordinates and delivers a range of student programs at the school to support growth and promote positive relationships.

With parental consent, the chaplain can also provide spiritual support like prayer, for people experiencing grief or loss. The chaplain plays a vital role within the wellbeing team that is provided at Victoria Point State High School.

This is only a brief snapshot of what a Chaplain does. If you have any questions, concerns for students, or simply want to touch base, you can contact Kirra Willich at kwill1007@eq.edu.au
