VPSHS SPORT - INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS
There are many opportunities for students to participate in sport at Victoria Point State High School. Information pertaining to each sport and sporting competitions is advertised regularly in Student Notices, on the Sports Noticeboard (outside Staffroom 1), in the school's electronic newsletter, as well as on the School website and Facebook page.
Inter-house competitions and carnivals include the Swimming Carnival (Term 1) Cross Country (Term 1) and Athletics Carnival (Term 2). Every student is encouraged to participate, to the best of their ability, in these events for their House – Benfer, Heinemann, Master and Sands.
The inter-school squad is selected from these inter-house competitions with the exception of cross country and 12 years athletics. Students who qualify represent our school at the Bayside District Carnivals for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Selection into Bayside, Metropolitan East or State teams can occur for ongoing successful athletes.
Victoria Point State High School participates in the Bayside District Secondary Schools Sporting Competitions. The objective of this inter-school sporting competition is to foster sport amongst the affiliated state and independent schools in the Redlands and wider Bayside area. These competitions, conducted on each Tuesday afternoon (Years 7 and 8 teams) and Thursday afternoon (Years 9 and 10 teams), commence at 12.55pm and end at approximately 2.45pm. Selection trials occur for all inter-school sports.
Victoria Point State High School sends inter-school teams to compete in the following sports:
Term 1 and Term 2
- Summer Season Boys – Baseball, Basketball, Touch Football, Futsal and Cricket (10-12 only)
- Summer Season Girls – Touch Football, Volleyball and Futsal
Term 2 and Term 3
- Winter Season Boys - Rugby League, AFL (7-10 only), Soccer and Volleyball
- Winter Season Girls - Netball and Soccer
Bayside District and Metropolitan Finals pathways are available for successful teams after the completion of the district competition. These teams initially compete for district premierships and when successful, move on to metropolitan finals.
The school is part of the Metropolitan East Region, which provides the major school sport representative pathway for students. This Association invites students to attend district trials or submit a paper nomination depending upon the sport. When information regarding Bayside district and Metropolitan East Region trial dates is communicated to the school, the trial dates and venues are advertised in the Student Notices as well as via the school's Facebook page.
The emphasis for school-based sport is on promoting healthy and active lifestyles, skill development and student engagement to build spirit through participation. Students will have the opportunity to improve their skills and capabilities in court sports, field sports as well as cross country and track and field events.
To keep abreast of information regarding sport at VPSHS, students need to regularly check the Student Notices and Sports Noticeboard (outside Staffroom 1). Parents can also keep up to date via the school website as well as VPSHS Facebook and Twitter.
