The industry liaison officer works with students in year 10, 11 and 12 in helping them find suitable workplace training and employment.
This support service offers assistance throughout the year in enrolling with institutions such as the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE and Skilltech for students entering year 11 and 12. It also helps with the enhancement of curriculum studies by providing industry experience to students such as the Responsible Service of Alcohol course does with our Hospitality subjects.
The service also organises participation in the White Card course for students wishing to enter the workforce in construction. The White Card certification is a pre-requisite to undertake work experience and apprenticeships in the Trade Industry.
The industry liaison officer also:
liaises with employers to create further opportunities for students in school based traineeships and apprenticeships
organises interviews for students with potential employers
negotiates appropriate training programs for students entering an apprenticeship or traineeship
communicate with new and emerging apprenticeship centres to ensure contracts are registered
guides employers and registered training organisations on the procedure for effective training in high schools
works with disengaged students to guide them to further study, work experience or school based apprenticeships and traineeships
works with students to develop writing skills necessary to create effective resumes in order to apply to vacancies advertised throughout the school
registers Tax File Numbers on behalf of students.
